It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Murray Allen Seminuk, who left us on February 14, 2026 at the age of 80.
Murray was born on June 23, 1945, in Southey, Saskatchewan, to Albert and Ann Seminuk. He grew up in Saskatchewan, where he was an avid athlete from a young age, playing hockey, baseball, curling, and golf. In the mid-1970s, Murray and his then-wife Joanne moved to Calgary, where he would make his home for the rest of his life.
After working in sales with an electrical supply company in Calgary, Murray turned his passion for repairing and restoring violins and pianos into a second career as a piano technician, work that he enjoyed and continued right up until his passing. Murray had a keen ear and became a sought-after piano technician by music teachers and performers alike.
Murray was a devoted sports enthusiast. He was a skilled curler who enjoyed competition and remained active in masters curling in Alberta until recent years. When he wasn’t at the rink, Murray could often be found in his garage, repairing cars, restoring pianos, or pursuing his later passion for bird carving. It was a rare occurrence when Murray did not have his hands busy creating or repairing something.
Those who knew Murray will remember his outgoing personality. He loved meeting new people and sharing a story or a laugh. He was generous with his time and was always willing to lend a hand to those who needed it. In recent years, one of his greatest joys was watching his granddaughter, Alexandra, play hockey.
Murray was the eldest of four children. He was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Sharon. He is survived by his children Tyler (Kim), Leanne, and Garrett (Tanya); his sisters Deborah (Denis) and Bonnie (Ken); and many extended family members and friends whose lives he touched.
In keeping with Murray’s wishes, no formal funeral service will be held. Those who knew him are invited to remember Murray in their own way - perhaps over a cold beer, a few ends of curling, or a good story shared with friends.
